Programmes and Projects
TIP has commenced the implementation of a project proposal to address a pertinent challenge facing Tivland and Tiv youths; a seeming “voicelessness” of youths. Under this project, TIP would conduct occasional surveys, polls and carry out other activities to elicit from Tiv youths, their thoughts and perspectives on selected issues.
The proposal is intended to popularize the TIP project itself, as well as facilitate the promotion and use of emergent ICT resources. The first of such activity would strive to bring to fore those issues that are of particular interest to Tiv youths and by extension Benue and Nigerian youths.
The project is in line with the objectives of the Tiv Internet Project, which stresses the point to find novel strategies to promote the use of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). Specifically, TIP is interested in promoting the use of ICTs in conserving Tiv identity in ways that would also serve to project the image of the people to the online world and beyond. November – December 2005: As part of meeting its objectives in facilitating effective capacity
development programmes for young Tiv people, TIP awarded its first scholarships to 3 three intelligent youths, to participate in the weeklong Democratic Leadership Training Workshop (DLTW) organized by the Africa Leadership Forum, at its Conference Plaza in Ota Ogun State Nigeria, between November and December 2005.
They are Alu Ikpa 26, female, is a young producer with the Federal Radio Corporation Abuja seconded to the BBC Office in Abuja. Click here to read her report on the workshop.
Terkuma Zasha 27 is a lawyer and arguably, the youngest distinguished published writer (fiction) from TarTiv yet (let us know of any…we have not met yet!). Terkuma runs the TZ Dreams Initiative an NGO where he runs activities like the Lizard Group Project, a theater-performing group dedicated to dramatizing books in a bid to enhance a reading culture amongst young people. Click here to read his report and see his book covers.
And the third, Joseph Werna, 31 is a Theater Arts performer, serving currently with the National Association of Nigerian Theater Arts Practictioners (NANTAP). Joseph has plans to go into humanitarian services in the areas that concern youth service. Click here to read his report.
The Tiv Internet Project is pursuing an ambitious programme of finding capacity development programmes online and offline, both in Nigeria and outside Nigeria, for the benefit of young Tiv people to boost their personal and professional capacities. Where feasible, TIP will fund or solicit funds to support their participation.
This is a call for Tiv youths wishing to participate in appropriate programmes to send in their interests. Kindly send e-mails to enquiry@tivnation.com (please no phone calls!)
This is also a call for organizations and training centres offering such development programmes to contact us at enquiry@tivnation.com for more information.
Furthermore, this is a call for individual philanthropists and corporate organizations to support the participation of young people in such programmes. The long-term consequences cannot be underemphasized. For further information, please contact Mr. Vitalis Ortese on +234 802 340 0030 send a mail to enquiry@tivnation.com

A conference promoting people centred development for Tivland was born out of discussions amongst concerned sons and daughters of Tivland on the ATE, Association for Tiv Empowerment forum, ( ATE-u-tiv@yahoogroups.com). ATE recognized that the development challenges facing Tar Tiv (Tivland) would remain in-situ unless the Tiv sought to make a difference.
TivDev ’05 is an attempt to interpret global developmental challenges in a very specific local context and from this starting point seek solutions that are both tailored to and appropriate for the needs of the local situation.
TivDev ’05, will not only identify the key constraints affecting development, but more importantly what can be done sensibly and practically by various stakeholders, to address these constraints and make progress. The conference will address the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and constraints of the Tiv experience in the four key areas of Health and Hiv, Education and Gender Development, Economy and Industry and Peace and Partnerships
The conference will hold from 29 th to 31 st December 2005 in Gboko, for more information please visit the conference site on www.tivdev.org
TIP will be part of the conference in December
