ALF's Democratic Leadership Training
Workshop
This
year, the Africa Leadership Forum inaugurated the first of 18
workshops to train, for the next three years (2004 – 2006) over 600
young adults, mostly professionals, members of Community Based
Organizations, Non Governmental Organizations, Civil Society
Organizations, Students, private and public sector officers who have
shown demonstrable leadership qualities and are in various positions
of influence and authority in their respective space of operation
and sphere of influence.
The main goal of the
DLTW is to promote democratic leadership ideals among the successor
generation by building their capacity to demand and practice good
governance towards institutionalizing the norms and principles of
liberal democracy in Nigerian and Africa.
The Workshops hold for a week and
ALF bears the costs of accommodation and, meals, while participants
are expected to bear their cost of transportation and from the venue
only.
This is a call for
Nigerian and African participants for the DLTW. Tiv youths are
specifically requested to apply to participate. Those seeking
fellowships to participate in the workshop should indicate their
interests by sending a mail to

Emerging Leaders International Fellows Programme
The Center on Philanthropy and Civil Society
Application Deadline: ongoing
This programme provides leadership training through applied research and professional mentorships for young scholar-practitioners in the nonprofit sector. The program is open to scholars and practitioners interested in building third-sector capacity in the United States and overseas. The research topic for applicants to the 2006 Emerging Leaders Programme, including the programme's Diversity Fellowship, is community foundations. Global Governance invites
short commentaries (1,500-2,000 words) and longer research papers
(7-8,000) from researchers in the developing and transition world on
major
global governance issues of the day. The refereed journal provides a
forum
for practitioners and academics who want to explore the impact of
international institutions and multilateral processes on economic
development, peace and security, human rights, and preservation of
the
environment. Past contributors include Mary Robinson, Jessica
Tuchman and
Mats Berdal.

Event Details: This
course will focus on participation of stakeholders at different
levels in developing Integrated Pest Management (IPM) Policies
and institutional innovations. Issues discussed will include:
- stakeholder analysis
- role of actors
- stakeholder participation in interactive policy
formulation
- participation, power & empowerment
- role of participatory research & extension
- some participatory rural appraisal (PRA) tools for field
work
This course is designed for managers, policy makers,
specialists and senior technical staff from both the private and
public sector, including universities, national research or
development programmes, governments and non-government
organisations.
This 10 day programme may be taken alone or as a part of the six
week International Training Programme on Integrated Pest
Management for Sustainable Agriculture and Food Safety.
The training programme incorporates discussions, group work,
case studies, presentations, field visits, interactive lectures,
and excursions. Participants will also develop action plans
related to the topic of the short course and relevant for their
home situation. It is hoped that participants will have an
opportunity to learn from the broad international experience of
both programme trainers and their fellow participants.

Registration Details:
Application deadline is April 21 2006.
Deadline for fellowship applications is December 1 2005.
Fees:
The fee for one course is 1825 euros. The maximum fee for any
combination of courses is 5025 euros.
Fellowships are available from the Netherlands Fellowship
Programme (NFP) for nationals of a limited number of countries. |
